Alexander Bitter, the Ka Leo’s esteemed Editor, will be one of five Hawaii high school students attending the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) to be held in Honolulu until November 13th. This is the first time that APEC will be held in Hawaii, with thousands conference-related visitors expected to be visiting the islands, including dignitaries such as U.S. President Barack Obama and economic leaders from various nations.

APEC is a conference that involves 21 nations, or “member economies” (as they are officially called). APEC advocates free trade and increased exports across the Asia-Pacific region.

Editor Bitter won this privilege when his essay on sustainability was selected as a finalist in the APEC essay competition. He is the only public school student to achieve this status.

He looks forward to attending this important conference and plans to write an additional article covering this event. Stay tuned!
